We were super excited to view the Don the Verb’s spring clothing line debut this past Monday night. When we attended the debut we were initially unsure of what to expect since I had never heard anything about the line. What greeted me when I arrived made me pleased. Inside a building in SoHo was a stark, Zen like space, populated by space age silver mannequins. The clean aesthetic of the space continued to the bar, where only Svedva Vodka was served as drink. The clothes were a beautiful continuation of the surroundings. Stark as well, with a strict color palette of mostly black and grey punctuated with the occasional sighting of orange red, loden green, a fleshy pink, they lent for interesting viewing. Interesting details were abound, like in a draped military-style jacket, which was accented with ruched sort of belt-closure. Other favorites were a pale pink layered slip dress, and orange-red jodhpurs paired with a tweed jacket. The clothes certainly weren’t for the faint of heart. Overall, we felt as if the designers captured the most important sensibilities for the season and reinterpreted them in a way that was unique to their vision. The mannequin displays were also a great way to see the details of the clothes. Oh, and one of the designers had a confession for us: she’s a fan of dolce vita! Brava!
