We were lucky enough to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 35th Anniversary this month at the Three Apple’s Hello Kitty Exhibit at Royal/T in Culver City. This dynamic exhibit features special art installations as well as an extensive collection of merchandise. Although the last event of the series concluded last night, we managed to snap some great pictures to share. Saw many fabulous characters, including fictional, as well as their real-life counterparts! The event was geared towards adults, but it’s probably safe to say it brought out the inner child in us.

Still beautiful and always a classic…

We love the idea of having a garden growing down your wall! Thus, we love the Wooly pocket, “a soft-sided garden container” that works both indoors and out.

One of our best clients, Jennifer Love Hewitt, was spotted at the ‘This is It’ Premiere in the Marilyn Boots. She pairs the all black version with jeans and a blazer and tee for a casual chic look. Looking great, girl!

We’re so excited to present Tiffany’s band, Rainbow Arabia, which will be opening for Julian Casablancas tonight at The Orpheum. A couple of us have tickets for tonight’s show and are anxious to hear the debut of Julian Casablancas’s (the lead singer for The Strokes) solo work. After tonight, Rainbow Arabia will continue to open for Julian Casablancas during his LA stay, then follow him north, where the two bands will reunite for a show in Vancouver. We can’t wait to see them in action… wish Tiffany luck!

West Hollywood
We had some interesting characters pass by our store on Halloween. It was quite a spectacle in West Hollywood!

I had just looked around to what I perceived as dubious looks from all of my coworkers. I had a second before stated that I was going to buy an exquisite cashmere sweater that we sell in the store. Maybe I was receiving dubious looks because, after all, I’m the girl who doesn’t spend money on anything. I was recessionista before there was a recession to speak of. I bring my lunch, and ride a bike to work so I don’t have to buy a Metro Card. And I had just stated I was buying cashmere. Why would someone so budget conscious do that? To me, there were many reasons. My new sweater was rife with all the right details. Although it was just a simple grey cardigan, the v-neck that hit in the exact right place on me, and the scale was exactly right for my petite frame. The length made it perfect to wear with jeans, leggings, or even the occasional harem pant. It would be my definitive sweater for the whole fall. And yes, it was quite similar to the sweater I was already wearing, but the one I was wearing was from a purveyor of throw-away fashion. The fit and quality just wasn’t the same. The cheap one took on a definite dingy hue when compared with the other. Plus, I was chilly in it. So I bought the cashmere. And, by the end of the season, no one will be looking at me funny. There will be no question as to why I purchased it. As I rode my bike home that night I felt something that I hadn’t felt all day. I felt warm!

Here at the Seattle store, we love the filmmaker, artist, and writer, Miranda July. This is what she’s currently working on:

Eleven Heavy Things
2009
Eleven Heavy Things, created for the 53rd International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, is comprised of eleven sculptural works installed in an enclosed garden within Giardino delle Vergini. The cast fiber-glass, steel-lined pieces are designed for interaction: pedestals to stand on, tablets with holes for body parts, and free-standing abstract headdresses. A series of three pedestals in ascending height, The Guilty One, The Guiltier One, The Guiltiest One, ask the viewer to ascribe their guilt relative to the people around them. A large flat shape, hand-painted with Burberry plaid, hovers on a pole, waiting to become someone’s aura. A series of tablets invite heads, arms, legs and one finger: This is not the first hole my finger has been in, nor will it be the last. A wider pedestal for two people to hug on reads, We don!t know each other, we’re just hugging for the picture…
July assumes and invites the picture — these are eleven photo opportunities, in a city where one is always clutching a camera. Though the work begins as sculpture, it becomes a performance that is only complete when these tourist photos are uploaded onto personal blogs and sent in emails — at which point the audience changes, and the subject clearly becomes the participants, revealing themselves through the work. *
