Whitney Biennial

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

This past weekend NYC was aflurry with art fever, as the Armory Show descended upon our fair gotham. However, one of the true visual gems is the recently opened Whitney Biennial featuring some of the newest and most innovative art of our time. However, what’s truly rad about this year’s Biennial is that for the first time women artists outnumber men in the show- something you definitely don’t see every day in the fine art world.

If you happen to be in New York, drop by the show and see some of our favorite works below!

Looking for some spring reading? Well, if you love shoes as much as we do be sure to pick up a copy Fifty Shoes That Changed The World from the Design Museum Shop London, available on their website. Inside you’ll find how everything from the platform to the Croc has helped shape society as we know it. Ever wondered about the civil war heritage of the Frye boot, or what illustrious Dr Doc Marten’s is named after? Just consider this book an Encyclopedia of foot fashion.

Fashion Week party at B.East

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Here in NYC we barely had time to recover from Fashion Week before we were swept up in the world-wind which was the Armory Show. However, we did have time to throw a pre- Valentine’s Day fashion bash of our own at B. East in Chinatown sponsored by Voli Light Vodkas- complete with DJs, specialty drinks, and a packed crowd. Our friend MayK at maykasahara.blogspot.com was there on hand to capture some images from the night. Thanks May!

And what would the night be without some rad giveaways? To all our wonderful guests we bestowed complimentary Voli vodka with Dolce Vita branded handcuffs.

To add ambiance we also screened the original La Dolce Vita, perfect with a pink tint and lit up by a disco ball.
And with all this dreary winter weather we’ve been having lately, what better way to warm up the imagination than with some pictures from Federico Fellini’s 1960’s seminal masterpiece? There truly is nothing sweeter than a young Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg frolicking around a summer-soaked Rome. However be warned: the images below may want to make you leave your computer to go on romantic misadventures throughout an exotic Italian city.

According to Racked.com, wooden shoes ( a traditional Dutch favorite and recent Chanel runway staple)  are due for a major comeback this spring. Among Racked’s best bets for the anti- clog?  DV by Dolce Vita’s “Tulua” sandal (above) and the Dolce Vita “Hayden” wedge sandal- all in sun-soaked colors like grey, yellow, and silver.

Dolce Vita On Refinery29

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Yesterday the lovely ladies on Refinery29.com included us on their Ultimate Guide to Spring Shoes. What do they recommend for this spring? A healthy dose peep-toe of booties, red, sneaker-inspired pumps and flats, woven kicks, and “The New Espadrille” (shown below). However, you can choose your own breezy summer favorites here on the site – which we’ve stocked with summer essentials like our Hayden Criss Cross Wedge or the Elijah Gladiator Sandal. Nothing like a pair of new shoes to make dreams of warm weather a little more in reach.
