Picture 1
Newly opened reRun Theater has it all. Located in chic Brooklyn hotspot DUMBO, it’s a movie theater, bar, and gastropub all rolled into one. Housed in one of the area’s best bars reRun, the space is made up of 60 + seats recycled from discarded minivans, and serves a plethora of  craft beers and organic wines, in addition to gourmet bites from the snack bar. On special nights there will be also be a live DJs , replete with  kitschy drive-in themed drinks on hand. In addition, not just any films will be played- these gems will be new independent films without national distribution, shown at the likes of  South by Southwest, Cannes, Sundance, and others. In short, not your usual dinner and a movie.

The Best Ice Cream In NYC

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Picture 41

While the heat and humidity leave much to be desired, one thing we’re grateful for this summer (and every summer) is the plethora of ice cream trucks lining this city. Whether you’re a die-hard Mister Softee fan, or you need something with a little more variety- NYC has got something for you. Last September at the Fashion’s Night Out celebration, we discovered Heartschallenger- who serve up more of an experience than just soft serve. Below you can see some of the pictures we snapped outside Opening Ceremony boutique:

Another of our frozen favorites are Van Leeuwen Artisanal Ice Cream, whose vans have popped-up everywhere from local concerts to outside The Standard Hotel downtown. While they now have a store in Greenpoint, Brooklyn we still look forward to spotting that yellow truck from a distance.

While it’s small and often overlooked il laboratorio del gelato is close to our headquarters (and our hearts), and on a balmy day nothing is better than a scoop of their green tea or lavender gelato.

Carousel at Bryant Park

Monday, June 28th, 2010

Picture 51

While no one is disputing that NYC has its fair share of beautiful parks, none has the same Joie de Vive as Midtown’s Bryant Park. Home to the tents of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, as well as being the Ivy covered backyard to The New York Public Library’s grandest building – Bryant Park is a long time favorite of tourists and New Yorkers alike. If you happen to live nearby, tomorrow the park will be having a free screening of the 1956 film adaptation of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Carousel. This sing-a-long hit centers around a carousel barker (Gordon MacRae ) who falls in love with an enchanting young mill worker played by Shirley Jones. However, after getting her pregnant he dies in a botched robbery, and 15 years later is allowed to come back from heaven to make amends. The film starts at 5 so be sure to come early and with a picnic basket!

DV Spotting: Alexa Chung

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

You never know who you’ll run into in this city. In this case,  former MTV VJ and current New Yorker Alexa Chung was recently seen out wearing the Nolita in black. We love how Alexa paired the simple flats with a girlie floral dress and leopard bag for a look that’s ultra-feminine, but still retains that trademark Alexa edge. Check out the shopping section of our site to the see  rest of our flats collection, great for an easy (and walkable) summer!

Picture 25

Admit it, you love the darker things in life. With sunshine all around, and summer on everyone’s mind, where can you go to embrace your inner goth? We introduce to you: Cemetery Screenings at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Following the usual summertime tradition, the cemetery will be hosting showings of fun films  ranging from the scary, to the spooky, to the downright ridiculous (have you ever watched Beetlejuice in the park with one hundred or so of your best friends?). The event permits alcohol and encourages picnic baskets, so for those of you looking for a fun activity on a Saturday night – cozy up to a loved one, or brave the night with a few close gal pals and come on down for some good, old-fashioned scares!

Gates open at 7:30, and the movie plays at 9:00. Make sure to arrive early for better seating! Click here for movie listings.

DV Spotting: San Francisco

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

West coast DV sighting! Via Racked, Meagan was photographed on the corner of Market and 16th in SF, wearing an Olive Olivia shirt, a vintage cardigan, leggings from H&M, and boots from Dolce Vita. We really dig her monochrome look contrasting with that California sunshine-

Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir Captures Iceland

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Picture 6

While Iceland has been in the news lately more for its natural disasters than its scenic beauty, one entrepreneurial photographer decided to set out in the early morning to snap a few pics of Mt. Eyjafjallajokull erupting before the rainfall. Hailing from Hafnarfjörður, knitter/artist/photographer and mother of two Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir shoots ethereal and haunting images of one of the world’s most mysterious habitats.

Fashion Week party at B.East

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Here in NYC we barely had time to recover from Fashion Week before we were swept up in the world-wind which was the Armory Show. However, we did have time to throw a pre- Valentine’s Day fashion bash of our own at B. East in Chinatown sponsored by Voli Light Vodkas- complete with DJs, specialty drinks, and a packed crowd. Our friend MayK at maykasahara.blogspot.com was there on hand to capture some images from the night. Thanks May!

And what would the night be without some rad giveaways? To all our wonderful guests we bestowed complimentary Voli vodka with Dolce Vita branded handcuffs.

To add ambiance we also screened the original La Dolce Vita, perfect with a pink tint and lit up by a disco ball.
And with all this dreary winter weather we’ve been having lately, what better way to warm up the imagination than with some pictures from Federico Fellini’s 1960’s seminal masterpiece? There truly is nothing sweeter than a young Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg frolicking around a summer-soaked Rome. However be warned: the images below may want to make you leave your computer to go on romantic misadventures throughout an exotic Italian city.

Hello Kitty’s 35th Anniversary

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

We were lucky enough to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 35th Anniversary this month at the Three Apple’s Hello Kitty Exhibit at Royal/T in Culver City. This dynamic exhibit features special art installations as well as an extensive collection of merchandise. Although the last event of the series concluded last night, we managed to snap some great pictures to share. Saw many fabulous characters, including fictional, as well as their real-life counterparts! The event was geared towards adults, but it’s probably safe to say it brought out the inner child in us.
